Another Big Congratulations to Dr. L’Abbe!

The American Society for Nutrition’s annual conference took place in Boston, MA. Dr. Mary L’Abbe was recognized during the ASN awards ceremony and received the Conrad A Elvehjem Award for Public Service in Nutrition, a testament to her remarkable contributions in advancing the science of nutrition for the betterment of society. Heartfelt congratulations are extended once more this year to the esteemed and deserving Dr. L’Abbe!

The International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) recently recognized Dr. Mary L’Abbe during its 2023 IUNS awards ceremony held during its Congress that took place in Tokyo, Japan. Fellows of IUNS are elected every four years and are awarded to nutrition scientists who have rendered outstanding service to the cause of nutrition and who have exemplified outstanding nutrition research, progressed the development of nutritional science, and whom have received other national recognitions.

CRDCN National Policy Challenge

CRDCN, in partnership with SAS and Statistics Canada, challenges emerging researchers to investigate a policy problem of their choosing using microdata and present their research findings to their peers and to a jury of researchers and policy makers. The Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN) designed the National Policy Challenge competition to encourage student researchers to share their policy ideas and to promote the use of microdata in developing innovative, evidence-driven policy solutions. This year will showcase the research of the 2021/2022 finalists.

 

Samer Hamamji – a PhD Candidate in the L’Abbe Lab – is a finalist in the competition and will be presenting on Wednesday, June 8th at 1:50 PM EDT.

Jessica Muha Featured in U of T’s Varsity Blues

January 24, 2022

 

We are proud to highlight Jessica Muha, a summer and undergraduate student at the L’Abbe Lab in 2020/2021, who was recently featured on U of T’s Varsity Blues news for an outstanding year in athletics and academics!

 

As a summer student in our lab, Jessica won best project for the 2020 Department of Nutritional Sciences Undergraduate Summer Research Opportunity Program (DNS USROP). She continued her research in our lab on baby and toddler foods and dietary patterns as a 3rd year undergraduate thesis student.

 

Jessica also served as co-president of Varsity Board and was a member of the e-mentorship program at Woodsworth College. At the end of the school year, she was named a U SPORTS academic all-Canadian. Wow! Congratulations Jessica!

 

It was our pleasure to work with such a well-rounded and talented individual!  We wish Jessica all the success in her final undergraduate year. Read Jessica’s full story HERE.

Dr. Mavra Ahmed is the Data Challenge Winner!

Congratulations Dr. Mavra Ahmed from all of us at the L’Abbe Lab for winning the Data Challenge at the Artificial Intelligence for Public Health Summer Institute!

 

This past summer, senior doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career researchers met virtually to expand their skills and knowledge related to the application of AI innovations in public health research and practice while exploring the potential impact of AI technologies on health inequities.

 

The L’Abbe Lab is so proud of Dr. Ahmed on this achievement!

ASN Foundation Announces Class of 2021 Fellows

Congratulations Dr. Mary L’Abbe for becoming a Fellow of the American Society of Nutrition!

 

Today the ASN announced the 15 individuals who will be inducted into its Class of 2021 Fellows. To be inducted as a Fellow of the Society is the highest honor ASN bestows, recognizing individuals for significant discoveries and distinguished careers in the field of nutrition. A huge congrats to all of the Fellows and to Dr. L’Abbe for this amazing accomplishment!

Congratulations U.N. World Food Program!

The  U.N. World Food Program (WFP) has won the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.

 

We, at the Labbe lab, recognize the importance of addressing nutrition issues nationally and internationally and offer our most heartfelt congratulations on this incredible achievement. Thank you for making the world a better place!

“Professor Mary L’Abbé spoke about the importance of healthy food environments, which enable families to make better choices about what they eat. “We’ve seen a real shift over the last 15 years, with less onus on consumers to make healthier choices easier for them,” said L’Abbe, a scientist at the Lawson Centre and a Professor of Nutritional Sciences at U of T. ”

Order of Canada Investiture Ceremony

September 5, 2019

 

Her Excellency presented the Member insignia of the Order of Canada to Dr. Mary L’Abbé.
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, invested 1 Companion, 5 Officers and 31 Members into the Order of Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on September 5, 2019.

 

Once again, a big congratulations to Dr. L’Abbe on this well-deserved recognition!
