As a recent graduate from the University of Toronto, Salma has a major in Nutritional Sciences and a double minor in Immunology and Physiology. In the past Salma has worked at the Ministry of Education, Healthy Schools Unit as a Policy and Programs Assistant, and as a Research Student at the Hospital for Sick Children, investigating the impact of biomarkers on growth. Her research findings were presented as a poster presentation to the Experimental Biology Conference in San Diego. For her masters, Salma is investigating the effects of diet quality on the prevalence of chronic disease using the Canadian nationally representative survey. Her goal is to provide a broad picture of past and current eating patterns of Canadians and their associations with obesity and other chronic diseases; an essential element for informing the future Canadian dietary guidelines and nutrition policies.
