Beatriz is a 2nd year PhD candidate in the L’Abbe Lab. Her research interests currently relate to the impact of nutrition claims in public health initiatives, policies and regulations. Specifically, she is studying the nutritional quality of foods carrying nutrition claims and the role of interpretative claims in consumers’ food choices. She is also assessing the nutrition labelling of the Canadian prepackaged food supply according to international best practices surveillance models, in collaboration with INFORMAS (International Network for Food and Obesity/ non-communicable Diseases Research, Monitoring and Action Support).
Beatriz received a B.S. in Engineering in Food Industries from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico, and a MSc. in Production and Operations Management from the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. She was an exchange student at the University of Manitoba during her undergraduate studies and has working experience in the areas of regulatory affairs, product development and project management.
